Koh Kret Pottery Village | Ancient handicraft made by Mon people | Nonthaburi

A village known as “Kwarn Ar- marn” or pottery village was settled in Thailand more than 2 centuries. The Mons villagers from Myanmar were encouraged by King Taksin the Great to establish a pottery village here because they are skilled potters. Their ancestors either fled or were forcibly taken as slaves from what is modern day Burma during the Ayutthaya period and have lived on Koh Kred ever since.

They are best known for their Mon style pottery which is known as Kwan Aman. They set up kilns to produce many types of domestic wares such as pots, jars, bowls, and mortars needed for everyday use by the people. Their produces are considered to be among the most practical as well as the most beautiful of all unglazed earthenware.

Visitors can walk along small road through the villages and visit many houses where they also show how to make potteries. There are also many riverside restaurants and souvenir shops.
