Wat Phrasi Rattana Mahathat | Buddhist Temple | Lopburi

Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat is a large royal temple, it covers an area of 20 ray (about 8 acres). It was built for beliefs of Buddhism and the central of the holy Lopburi town.

The layout of the temple consists of a large main prang in the middle of the functioning. It was influence of Khmer art, Bayon style, 12th – early 13th centuries A.D. represent which new style was the oldest Thai prang and sent the influence to pra prang in Ayutthaya period and surrounding with two line of balconies.

In front, there is Royal Vihara with nine parts/sections that turn to the east. Assume that it must have been built in King Narai the Great period, which had doors and windows in lotus shape.

A large main prang was surrounding with many chides of different styles. This temple assumed that it must have been built since the 12th – 13th Buddhist centuries, and it must have been renovated several times during the reign of King Maha Chakraphat, King Barom Kot and King Narai the Great in Ayutthaya period until King Mongkut in Rattanakosin period.
