Lina Badeka is an Architectural Engineer and has worked mainly as a construction architect-project foreman. At the same time, she is a well-travelled personality, travel blogger and photographer. In the last few years, he started to deal with photography with the motivation of capturing the beauty of the world, the emotions caused by the meeting of cultures and people, the colors, the moments. Lina Badeka has also taken part in many international online contests with her photographs which have received many distinctions, as well as in three group exhibitions in Italy.

The selection has been done by all the selectors of Rainbow which have expressed 24 preferences and the photos with more points has been selected as finalists. Tell us a few words about Whereislina, its theme, etc

Whereislina.com

I have been traveling for many years, mainly to places with heavy history and unique customs and traditions, nature, worlds and cultures that are being lost. Many taking in, many records in my memory and heart, but also many images of the world captured with my camera. The material for a site with stories and photos of the world therefore existed!

Whereislina was born as an idea from a conversation-prompt by my dear friend Maya Tsoklis, and it started to be set up 1.5 years ago by a good friend of mine, who also undertook my training in the new magical world… I got excited, and in my spare time I started to record my stories, mainly, that I lived in every place, that I experienced with my mind and heart. The site was uploaded in the New Year, and there are still many stories to be written from my adventures in the neighborhoods of the world, that I lived and will live!

Neighborhoods in remote parts of the earth, neighborhoods with authentic people, with cultures, customs and traditions that tend to be lost. I love art, I love people, and that’s what I look for and highlight with my stories on whereislina. To travel with my word and my eyes those less fortunate than me, those who dream of the colorful neighborhoods of Cartagena, the Dal Lake in Kashmir, crossing the Himalayas, the dunes of the Namib desert, the Avenue of the Baobabs in Madagascar… Who dream of dancing with the Papuans…

Yes, photography is my great love, after traveling and Architecture. That is why last year I entered the examination process and today I am a second-year student in the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts at the University of West Attica. But my relationship with photography begins in my student years in Architecture, where Photography was an optional subject in the first two years of my studies. However, my heavy workload when I started working and the lack of time, made me rarely use my camera for a long time and usually on my trips, which were also few and only for a few days.

In the last years of the crisis the work decreased, and now having time, I started to travel a lot and photography came back into my life and the camera is now my travel companion, with it I capture the beauty of the World. The omnipotence of the image today and in browsing the world… The dream has just begun…

With Papua. Indonesia

I have traveled a lot and feel blessed for it, but the traveler is insatiable…. the world is endless and so is its beauty…. I have traveled to India four times – the color and unpredictability drive me crazy – China three (one in Tibet), Indonesia and Nepal two, I don’t count countries, I count moments I live, breaths I take in the places I visit.

I love Asia for its cultures, Africa for its authenticity, Latin America for its color and music – the joy of life.

I single out Ethiopia for the history and culture of the North and the unique-authentic tribes in the South. The monolithic churches of Lalibela are one of my standout World Heritage masterpieces, and the only place I want to visit again.

I loved Madagascar for its light, this unique light that I could not find anywhere else in the world. The images take on another dimension, they are paintings, the red earth reflects her breath.

But where I left my heart is long-suffering Yemen. I went in 2010, two months before the civil war broke out, a civil war that destroyed this beautiful country with its wild nature, unique-site-adapted architecture and incredibly authentic people. Biblical figures and cinematic shots, which transport you like an extra in a Zeffirelli film to live the years of Jesus!

There are many moments that I remember with great emotion: when I met the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala … when we sang New Year’s Eve carols in a Greek church in Diridawa in the depths of Ethiopia …. when I watched the unique Lijiang Impression at Jade Snow Dragon Mountain in China …. when … when … but it moves me more when I remember the hugs with the children of Yemen, Madagascar, Ethiopia, India … with all the children of the world.

The Pushkar Fair, also called the Pushkar Camel Fair or locally as Kartik Mela or Pushkar ka Mela is an annual multi-day livestock fair and cultural fête held in the town of Pushkar (Rajasthan, India). The fair starts with the Hindu calendar month of Kartik and ends on the Kartik Purnima, which typically overlaps with late October and early November in the Gregorian calendar. In 1998, over 1 million visitors came to Pushkar throughout the year. The Pushkar fair alone attracts over 200,000 visitors.

What are the next destinations you have in your plans to visit?

Dansing with Papua. Indonesia

I have a particularly heavy schedule, and my studies, at least for the next few months, leave me no time to travel, except during the holidays. So I will spend the Easter holidays in Morocco, an 11-day tour of the beauties of North Africa.

In August an 18-day trip to Northern Pakistan is planned to visit the ruins of Korokurum, meet the Kala tribe and enjoy the masterpieces of Candhara Greco-Buddhist art and the unique “Fasting Buddha” in the Lahore Museum. This trip brought back an old motto of mine, I used to say it to myself when I started planning a difficult trip: Tell me which fear you loved again, which one you fell in love with again, escape…
