Tell us a little bit about Motorbike Journey?
My name is Piyawat. I’m travel across Thailand with my wife, Wassamon. We’re a normal office worker as others which had a routine work like 8 hours a day and 5 days a week but we will go out for riding every time we have a chance, and we did like this since 2014 until now.
We have a facebook Page name ‘Motorbike Journey’ to share and inspire people to ride and travel Thailand. No matter what kind of motorbike you ride, or how big or small size of your motorbike, just love to ride and explore the nature is enough.
At first, we created ‘Motorbike Journey’ just to share our travel story for small group of friends but after share the first video story, it became viral. So, that make us to keep creating contents since then to inspire people with the concept; ‘Just go out and do what you like with the one you love’.
We always believe that sometime ‘The best plan is no plan’. So, almost all trips, we go out only 2 of us and took the video and photo by ourselves everywhere we go. We start out with no scripts, just only destination and get inspiration for storytelling from the road. We just hope all bikers who love exploring and traveling can touch and feel the wind, the nature, and the happiness from the ride like us.
What type of Motorcycle do you use and why?
We mainly use Yamaha Super Tenere 1200. A touring motorcycle is fit with our traveling style that support both on-road and on some off-road and quite suit with long travel that sometime we have to ride 9-10 hours a day and still feel ok and comfort along the way for both rider and pillion passenger.
For the performance, Yamaha Super Tenere performance is satisfy me with1199 cc. liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, Forward-inclined parallel 2-cylinder and 110 hp is enough for our journey, but moreover than this it is a reliability. More than 150,000 Km. over the last 7 years of travelling around Thailand, Yamaha Super Tenere never make us a problems like electric error or engine malfunction and others. Just do only a routine and regular maintenance will be fine.
By the way, some trips that not too far from home like not over 150 KM or just want to chillax with easy ride, I choose to ride another one such as Yamaha Grand Filano, or Triumph T100. It’s depended on my route and my plan trip.
This is the difficult question! Because there are so many favorite destinations that we had explored in Thailand.
If you want to greet the first sun rise in Thailand, we recommend to Pha Chanadai Cliff, Khong Chiam District, Ubon Ratchathani province.
This place is the first sunrise shining over Thailand. We were ride to Pha Chanadai Cliff many years ago. At that time, there’re no road, just a slipper path of rocks and sand. We took 3 hours for 15KM to reach the cliff.
Very exhausting but when you meet the sunrise, it’s worth coming here. But in a couple years ago, there are a rode to the cliff already, everyone can even drive an eco-car to the cliff, very convenience right now.
And the most favorite sea of fog in Thailand, we recommend to Gunung Silipat, Betong District, Yala Province. Located in the southern of Thailand.
This is one the best attraction for hiking and can enjoy the sea of fog almost everyday with 360-degree view at the top of the mountain. At Gunung Silipat, you have to camping only, no toilet, no facilities, just a small place on the mountain to place your tent. In the night, you can enjoy milky way as well.
For ocean lover, we recommend Surin Island (Mu Koh Surin National Park) which located in the Andaman Sea off the west coast of Thailand.
This is the paradise island and be the best spot that you can enjoy the crystal-clear sea water, white sand beach and diving to explore ocean creature and corals. You can park your motorcycle at the peer and buy a ticket as day trip or stay a night at the island.
The last but not least, for the chillax traveler, we recommend Nan province, ‘the regions of slow life’. There are so many fantastic destinations to enjoy the view, chill, and heal your soul.
The mountain, the river, the fog, the milky way, all you can experience at Nan. And for biker, Nan also be the best province to ride also, there are so many wonderful routes to ride.
Tell us some of the best routes with motorbike that you did?
Actually, there are so many beautiful routes in Thailand but for my favorite one is ‘Route 1148’ (some people called ‘Nan Floating Road’) located along Tawangpa district, Nan province to Chiangkam district, Phayao province, North of Thailand.
The roads will twist and turn throughout the hillside. So, it becomes very famous among Thai bikers because we can enjoy the curves with stunning views on the top of mountains along the route. If riding in green season, you will feel like riding above the clouds because the route will cover with fog on both sides.
If you want to experience this route, we recommend you design to the trip by start from Phayao to Nan. Start at Phayao Privince – Phu Lung Ka National Park (1148 route). This viewpoint you can see the sea of fog with beautiful sunrise in the morning, then riding along 1148 route cross to Nan province. You can enjoy your riding with the stunning view and make a stop to take a brake at some local coffee shop or local restaurant on the hill.
From 1148 route, we recommend to ride a bit more to Doi Phu Kha National Park, 1256 route. Along the way from 1148 to 1256 route, you can enjoy another floating road as well. At Doi Phu Kha you can enjoy the sea of fog in the morning and the sea of star in the night.
Next, ride to stop at Sapan village, Nan province. It’s the little village surrounded by mountain and small river pass by. This village is just become famous among Thai travelers that come to get the best ozone, relax with green view and absolutely, the fog along the hill in the morning.
Nan is the destination that I go for ride every year. Some year was 3-4 times. It’s the good destination to heal my soul from busy work in the city. Also, Nan and Phayao is not used to have many foreign tourists, mainly are Thais. So, you will have a truly local experience here. If coming to Thailand don’t miss it.
Tell us some of the dangerous routes with motorbike that you already done ?
The dangerous route for us is Pha Chanadai Cliff that take 3 hours for 15KM but as I mention before, there are the convenience road to the cliff right now. By the way, there are another adventure route that we reach with my Tenere is Huai Kok Moo viewpoint located in Ratchaburi province.
The route is full of rock and have steep slope along the way. Mostly are 4×4 car or adventure and endure motorcycles are riding there. For my skill, it’s very hard for me to ride through this kind of route with pillion passenger. Some curves or some paths I let my wife to walk by herself or have to walk in advance to see the riding line for me.
But when you reach the viewpoint, you can see the panoramic views of Thailand Western nearby the Myanmar. Really wonderful. But actually, it’s depending on riding skill also. If I have better riding skill, Huay Kok Moo may be easier.
