Tell us a little about your first book, Rice and Soil

Alexandra: “Rice & Soil” is the first 15 months of the trip to Africa. The narrative, in the first person, follows Stergios from Thessaloniki to Cape Town and develops – through his eyes – like a travel novel, which is, however, completely true.

It started as an inner need for expression above all else. It was our need to record and experience again all that Stergios – and along the way I – had seen and learned while traveling. It is the story of a journey that changed us, that became a way of life.

Stergios and Alexandra: Every country is interesting and from every country we have traveled we remember something beautiful.

The tropical forests and isolated villages with their hospitable inhabitants in West and Central Africa, the lunar landscapes in Bolivia located at an altitude of 5000m above the Andes, the Inca ruins in Southern Peru, the bazaars and markets in Africa and South America , the hospitality of the people and the kindness we meet on our way and so much more, that if we start to tell, it will take us many hours.

Our memories and the moments that touched us the most have not so much to do with the country itself, but with what we experienced while passing through it.

Who we met, what we said, what we felt. It would be unfair to start talking about a couple of countries when in every place we have been there has been something unique.

Stergios and Alexandra: We encountered beautiful landscapes in Africa, in its tropical forests and impressive savannahs. But we also met in South America, in the lunar landscapes of Bolivia with its volcanoes and eerie lakes, up in the Andes but also in the South, in Patagonia with its ancient forests and glaciers.

Tell us a little about the trip

Stergios: In October 2013 I started from Greece, went to Italy and from there, by ship, I arrived in Morocco. From November 2013 to January 2015 I traveled the African continent passing through the following countries: Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Lesotho.

We have arrived in La Higuera! This is where Che was killed in 1967. Although today the village has fewer than 100 inhabitants, it remains alive thanks to Che and the few tourists who visit.

After a “test” with Alexandra in South Africa and Lesotho, we continued together in South America. From January 2015 to March 2016 we traveled to South America. The countries we have visited so far are Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Brazil.

The next goal is to continue the journey to South America and from there go to Central America and cross into the United States and Canada. The last destination for this continent will be Alaska. Asia and Oceania follow and one day we hope to return to Africa, where it all began…

Around the world on a Vespa (motorcycle travel)

Hello folks! We are Stergios & Alexandra and we’ve been traveling round the world on our Vespa scooter for 2.5 years (and yet not finished). We’ve been through Africa (from Morocco down to South Africa from the west side), Europe and South America. Kitsos – our Vespa – is currently in Brazil and our next step is to travel all the way to Alaska.
