Vung Tau Travel Guide, Getting Around

Located 125 km from Saigon, Vung Tau is a resort town in the province of Dong Nai. The whole city area lies on a peninsula which is separated from the mainland by a gulf river called Co May River. The town is a long strip approximately 14 km long and 6 km wide. Where the southern tip of town meets the ocean stand two famous mountains Nui Lon and Nui Nho or Large mountain and Small mountain.

Known under the French as Cap St Jacques, so-named by Portuguese mariners in honour of their patron saint – Vung Tau is a commercialised beach resort on a peninsula jutting into the South China Sea. Beachgoers looking for a tropical-holiday feel might do better making the three-hour trip to beautiful Mui Ne Beach.
