Tran Quoc pagoda is situated on an island in the West Lake. This is one of the oldest Buddhist temple in Vietnam, supposedly founded 1,400 years ago by King Ly Nam De with the name Khai Quoc (National Founder), and was built to hold a religious function.

At first it was built outside the Yen Phu Dyke and the move to West Lake.

The current structures are very impressive with architecture harmonious with nature, the pagoda complements the beautiful scenery around the lake. The pagoda is just off the road that divides West Lake and Truc Bach Lake.
